James A. (Jim) Reed - Director

Jim is a graduate of San Diego State University where he majored in the Liberal Arts and minored in Business Management. He also did graduate studies in Business Management at the same institution.
He spent 25 years in sales and marketing management in the building materials and hardware industries. Included in this span was time in the employ of several national Fortune 500 firms, including Owens Corning Fiberglas Corporation and Boise Cascade Corporation. Jim also founded and operated his own successful manufacturer’s representative agency. During this 12 year span, he took on a partner, and in 1987 sold his half of the business to the partner in order to seek new opportunities. The company continues to exist and now boasts sales in the $30M range.
In early 1990 Jim entered the field of business brokerage. He began with a firm that was founded by a friend and business associate whom Jim had known since the late 1960’s. He also served on the company’s Management Advisory Council at the request of the owner.
Jim has authored several articles on different aspects of the brokering of business entities. These appeared in newspapers and magazines directed to the owners of small businesses, and dealt with a variety of topics including business valuation, the selling process, and the criteria for choosing the right intermediary for the individual business owner.
Reed holds a California Real Estate Brokers license. In addition to completing several advance courses in business brokerage and valuation methodologies, he has served as guest lecturer at the Graduate School of Business, California Polytechnic Institute, Pomona, and has accepted an invitation to do the same at the graduate school of business at the University of Southern California.
During his 10 years as an intermediary, Jim has managed the sales process for most types of businesses. Included are successful transactions for businesses involved in software development, manufacturing, business services, and wholesaling. Mr. Reed feels that his vast array of experience in sales, marketing, and general management, as well as a great many business sale transactions serve him well in the capacity of Business Intermediary, no matter what the category.
